About Campus

Yangtze University is the largest comprehensive provincial university in Hubei Province, with main campuses in Jingzhou and Wuhan along the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2003, it was formed through the merger of four institutions: Jianghan Petroleum Institute, Hubei Agricultural College, Jingzhou Normal College, and Hubei Provincial Medical College for Health Professionals, inheriting academic traditions that trace back to 1936. Today, it is a key provincial “Double First-Class” construction university and one of Hubei’s four high-level universities, jointly supported by the Hubei Provincial People’s Government and major national energy enterprises such as CNPC, Sinopec, and CNOOC, with distinctive strengths in petroleum science and technology, wetland agriculture, and Jingchu cultural studies.

Situated in the historic city of Jingzhou—once the capital of the ancient Chu Kingdom and a core area of Three Kingdoms culture—and in Wuhan’s Caidian District, Yangtze University benefits from rich cultural heritage and strong transportation links. The Jingzhou campus lies along a scenic stretch of the Yangtze River known as the “Most Beautiful Stretch at Jingjiang”, blending riverside landscapes, ancient city walls, and modern academic facilities, while the Wuhan campus is surrounded by the Yangtze and Han rivers and Zhiyin Lake, in a Sino-French Ecological New City recognized as a major transport and innovation hub. Both campuses have been honored as Hubei Provincial Garden-Style Universities, with extensive teaching infrastructure, nearly 4.4 million printed volumes in the library, rich digital resources, and comprehensive sports and student life facilities.

Yangtze University has developed a comprehensive disciplinary system and strong research platform layout centered on its core advantages in energy, agriculture, environment, and regional culture. It is a doctoral degree-granting institution with multiple doctoral and master’s disciplines, three postdoctoral research stations, 66 undergraduate programs across 12 discipline categories, and eight subjects ranked in the global ESI top 1% (including Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Geosciences, Clinical Medicine, and Environment & Ecology). Supported by over 100 national and provincial research and teaching platforms—such as state key laboratories and national engineering centers—Yangtze University has hosted thousands of research projects and received national science and technology awards, while maintaining high graduate employment rates and cultivating more than 500,000 professionals who serve China’s petroleum industry, modern agriculture, and regional development.

The university actively promotes open and international education, with long-term collaboration with leading petroleum enterprises, local governments, and more than 120 overseas universities and research institutions. It offers popular programs such as MBBS and engineering majors to international students, participates in Belt and Road talent initiatives, and provides numerous scholarship schemes, including national and enterprise-funded awards, to support outstanding domestic and international students from over 90 countries. Through this close integration of teaching, research, industry cooperation, and international exchange, Yangtze University has become an important base for practical talent training, technological innovation, and cultural exchange along the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
